ABSENCE OF MUSIC AWARDS AND MUSIC TALENT COMPETITIONS IS KILLING TANZANIA MUSIC INDUSTRY

Music awards are very important for a successful music industry of any country, because it helps to encourage artists and create a competitive spirit which moves the industry up.

Music talent competitions are very important because it helps increase the exposure of new talents to the public, so that a lot of upcoming musicians can be founded. With various competitions and outlets, we can see a lot of biggest music super stars they emerged from different music talent shows, the success is seen in shows like bongo star search and super Nyota..

But in recent years we are witnessing the huge absence of these two important factors in the Tanzanian Music Industry. Without these, it is a quick path to the decline of the music industry. Mainly, because new emerging artists can’t be exposed and without music talent showcases or competitions they cannot access key stakeholders in the industry. The absence of music awards have caused a lot of musician to not be even recognized publicly. In past two years there was a lot of new coming artist, many whom we can't name.

Until now, we don’t know who is the best upcoming artist, the video of the year, or the song of the year. By getting right answers for these categories we can shape our music industry and can have references in these discussions concerning Tanzania music industry. Moreover, within these competitions we must develop a standard to which we can measure artists, that includes morality and messages in the music itself. Musicians should aim to create amazing music but also influence the younger generation in Tanzania to achieve greatness and improve their community.

Without these factors there is no way we can measure the success of different musicians. My advice to stakeholders and media industry we have to make sure music talent shows and music awards are constantly evolving and increasing if we really want to help our music industry!
